Application and usage of vacuum pump in packaging

The main purpose of using a vacuum pump during the packaging process is to remove air from the packaging container, in order to extend the shelf life of the product, prevent oxidation, inhibit microbial growth, or maintain the shape of the product.

The following are typical scenarios and usage methods that require a vacuum pump:

1、 The situation where a vacuum pump is required

①Food packaging

· Perishable foods (such as meat, seafood, and cooked food): Vacuum environment can inhibit bacterial growth and extend shelf life.

· Easily oxidizable foods (such as nuts, coffee beans): prevent oil oxidation or flavor loss.

· Soft packaging (bagged): such as vacuum packed sauces and cheese, which need to be vacuum sealed before heat sealing.

②Medicine and Medical Devices

· The packaging of sterile equipment and drugs needs to be evacuated and filled with inert gas (such as nitrogen) to prevent contamination or chemical reactions.

③Moisture proof electronic products

 · Precision electronic components (such as chips) are sealed in a vacuum or nitrogen filled environment to prevent moisture and oxidation.

④industrial product

· Chemical raw materials, powders, etc. need to be vacuum sealed to prevent moisture or dust leakage.

· Fluffy products (such as down jackets and sponges) can be compressed to reduce volume and facilitate transportation.

⑤Special process requirements

· Body to body packaging: Use vacuum adsorption film to tightly adhere to the product outline, enhancing the display effect.

· Vacuum sealing: such as the vacuum sealing of canned food.

2、 Instructions for using a vacuum pump

①Device Connect

· Connect the vacuum pump to the vacuum chamber or suction nozzle of the packaging machine through a pipeline to ensure good sealing (air leakage can affect the vacuum pumping effect).

②Parameter settings

· Vacuum degree: Adjust according to product requirements (e.g. food usually requires -0.08~-0.1 MPa, electronic products may require higher).

· Extraction time: Fluffy products require longer extraction time, and liquid products need to be prevented from boiling (can be evacuated in sections).

③Operation process

· Place the product into the packaging bag/container, aligning the bag opening with the sealing strip.

· Start the packaging machine, and the vacuum pump will automatically pump air to the set pressure.

· Sealed packaging of heat sealing device (or sealed after filling with inert gas).

· Release the vacuum and remove the finished product.

④Maintenance points

· Regularly replace the vacuum pump oil (oil rotary vane pump) or clean the filter (dry pump).

· Check whether the sealing strip and pipeline are aging and leaking.

· Install a liquid barrier during liquid packaging to prevent backflow into the pump.

3、 Precautions

· Liquid/powder packaging: It is necessary to choose an anti backflow vacuum pump or adjust the pumping speed to avoid contaminating the pump body.

· Fragile products: Control the suction speed to prevent the packaging bag from shrinking too quickly and damaging the product.

· Safe operation: Avoid prolonged idling of the vacuum pump during operation, and do not touch high-temperature areas.

By using vacuum pumps reasonably, packaging quality and efficiency can be significantly improved, but parameters need to be adjusted according to specific products and equipment types.
